The translation of a screenplay can be necessary early on in a film production process. In the case of international co-productions this is especially true as all parties involved need to read and understand the text, and be able to find financing (Fonds Sud in France, for example).

For the translator, translating a screenplay is a great opportunity to discover the raw material of a future film. He or she can play a role at all stages of production (synopsis, treatment) and distribution, until the writing of the subtitles, including the press kit or interviews, as he or she knows the project from the outset.
